Study Guides > Mathematics for the Liberal Arts Corequisite

About This Book

This book is designed to be used in a first-year general education mathematics course for non-STEM majors.  Throughout the text, there are just-in-time reviews of developmental math concepts to help those students who need further learning support. The text includes embedded algorithmically generated practice questions, and worked-example videos.  It is designed so that most chapters are independent, allowing the instructor to choose a selection of topics to be covered. Emphasis is placed on the applicability of the mathematics. This text is adapted from the Lumen Learning open source text Mathematics for the Liberal Arts by Tracii Friedman for use in the Mathematical Investigations course at Colorado Mesa University.  The Lumen text is based on Math in Society by David Lippman.

About Lumen

Lumen Learning’s mission is to make great learning opportunities available to all students, regardless of socioeconomic background. We do this by using open educational resources (OER) to create well-designed and low-cost course materials, including an online homework system, that replace expensive textbooks. Because learning is about more than affordability and access, we also apply learning science insights and efficacy research to develop learning activities that are engineered to improve subject mastery, course completion and retention. If you’d like to connect with us to learn more about adopting this course, please Contact Us. You can also make an appointment for OER Office Hours to connect virtually with a live Lumen expert about any question you may have.
